Spiritual  DIRECTION - WISDOM for the LONG WALK of FAITH

by Henri Nouwen - with Michael J. Christensen and Rebecca J Laird ~ Harper San Francisco

This book was not written by Nouwen (who died in 1996) but was developed by two of his students who identified "strands of timeless wisdom and personal guidance" from Nouwen's writings.  The book is offered as a literary encounter with Nouwen for personal spiritual growth within your own community.

JUNE 2009 TRIP TO CUBA

Four WJP churches were represented – Grenloch, Haddonfield, Hammonton, and Marlton in our visit to our partner in the Presbytery of Matanzas, and the seven travelers are shown in the photo.  Did the Holy Spirit lead us to stand under a sign proclaiming “Money” and “Cambio,” thereby prophesying important aspects of our trip?  I don’t know, but concern about money was a leitmotif in our trip – for both us and our hosts, reflecting our respective economic situations.  And “cambio” – change – was in the air, both actual and unrealized.  The airport in Havana was packed with Cuban Americans – a sign of recent, limited changes in U.S. policy.  Meanwhile, Cubans wait impatiently (but quietly) for their changes.  We are grateful for this opportunity to meet with our Cuban sisters and brothers and get to know them better.

CLERGY APPRECIATION MONTH

Clergy Appreciation Month is a special time that congregations set aside each year to honor their pastors and pastoral families for the dedication and multiple blessings provided by these special people.  Typically scheduled in October, but can be held at any time that is convenient for the church.  Important to remember that appreciation and affirmation of our spiritual leaders is appropriate throughout the entire year.  "The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching" 1 Timothy 5:17.  "Eight Ways to Encourage Your Pastor:" http://www.hearttouchers.com/pastor_appreciation, by Victor Parachin.  Copyright 199 by Victor Parchin and Christianity Today, Used by permission.  Website: http://www.family.org/pastor/cam
